The settlement of Brescia is dating back to the Ancient times and uniquely integrates valuable Roman remains, Renaissance squares and a medieval city centre- putted next to important twentieth- century architecture. Brescia of the Roman period is located in the heart of the city and stays as one of the most interesting archaeological zones in Northern Italy. At the beginning of 19th century, all the public and private buildings here were brought to light and completely restored. So, today we can still admire the imposing rests of the Roman Forum, which is closed north by the Capitoline Temple and dating back to the Flavian era (from 69 to 96 a.C.)

The Roman Theatre

The Roman Theatre is admired to be the third most important in Northern Italy for its dimensions. It was built in the III century AC and heavily damaged in the V century, but the steps to the front-scene and galleries under the stage are still possible to be seen almost intact by the time.

Santa Giulia Museum of the City

Santa Giulia Museum of the City is located in the Monastery of Santa Giulia and San Salvatore who are reputable to be patrons of Brescia. Various items of the Roman period can be seen- hosted in this museum as a part of a separate Roman age section. Among them are some golden copper heads dating back to the imperial era and the copper Winged Victory. On the central cell walls of the stone exhibition area - located on the ground floor, are hanged all the epigraphs found in the territory.

The Basilica - The famous Basilica of Brescia is located on the small Labus square where its old walls - originally situated from the Southern side of the forum can be fully admired by tourists. Later (probably towards the end of 11th century), a magnificent monument known as The Old Cathedral or Rotonda with a unique circular layout was built over the ruins of it by the masters of Como. It houses the Treasure of the Holy Crosses, including the Croce di Campo [The Cross of the Battlefield] (12th century), which was raised on the Carroccio. There are also interesting paintings by Romanino and Alessandro Bonvicino, named "il Moretto" (1526) and the Antegnati organ.

Sitting at the top of the Cidneo Hill, the castle dates back to ancient times. Fortified since the Roman Era, and probably a watchtower during the period of the Goths, it gradually took on its present aspect during the Visconti dynasty in the first half of the 14th century. More changes were made by the Venetians, French and Austrians. Called "Falco d'Italia" [the Italian Falcon] due to its role in the Ten Days Revolt, it has towers, ramparts, courtyards, drawbridges, and underground passages and rooms. Now it is the home of the Risorgimento Museum, the Museum of Weapons and the astronomical observatory.

S. Francesco Church

Dating back to the 13th century, the church has a splendid Romanesque - Gothic facade and a three nave interior with frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries, paintings by Moretto and Romanino, a priceless wood tablet with Crucifix from the 14th century. A large processional cross in embossed silver by G.F. delle Croci (1501) is among the masterpieces of Italian art. The adjacent Renaissance cloister from the late 15th century is made of red Verona marble.

Events

Brescia, Historic Thousand Miles Race

Among the many events organized in Brescia, the one not-to-be-missed is undoubtedly the Historic Thousand Miles Race. During this race everyone can admire the most beautiful old cars, produced between 1927 and 1957, the years that originated the first editions of this races.

15th February, SS. Faustino and Giovita fair

Among the traditional festivities, the biggest in Brescia is the Faustino and Giovita fair, where hundreds of stalls invade the streets of the historical city centre.
